The northern Highlands of Scotland remain a relatively untouched wilderness of rugged, yet peaceful, beauty. The typically changeable weather conditions provide an unparalled quality of light that rarely disappoints. It's heaven on earth for landscape photography, and there are few areas better than the mountains, land and coast within easy reach of the fishing village of Ullapool in Wester Ross.

Most of the images on this site were captured from an area within thirty or forty miles of Ullapool, and are available to buy as photocards and prints. Free postage and packing on your first order (UK mainland only).

Some of the best photographic opportunities here are during our long winter months - the days are short, the light is gentle, and the snow and ice truly make the Highlands come alive. It's an added bonus that the sun rises after 9am and sets soon after 3pm, so that little sleep is lost on dawn/dusk expeditions! I hope that my efforts during the weeks either side of Christmas will enable you to share the beauty of the Ullapool Highlands in winter.
