INTRODUCTON

The outstandingly beautiful wilderness around Ullapool makes for the ideal environment to develop your landscape photographic skills, whether you're just beginning or more experienced.

Mountains, lochs, beaches, islands, rivers & waterfalls are all within easy reach of the village - Inverpollaidh is only 20 minutes drive and Assynt 30 mins, and the beautiful beaches of Achnahaird & Achmelvich 45 minutes. Even the far north coast is just 90 minutes.

I offer both single day Highland Landscape Photography experiences, and week-long holidays based in Ullapool (at my self-catering cottage if available or at a suitable alternative if not).
Where I take you and what we attempt to achieve will be tailored to your own (or your group's) level of fitness and photographic experience. Whether you fancy a long walk in the hills or to a distant beach, or a vehicle tour of several easy-access locations, I am able to offer either or both, and anything in between. I have deliberately chosen to specialise in the landscape local to Ullapool - I know when and where to go, depending on weather conditions.

HOLIDAYS

The holidays that I offer are specifically tailored to your own (or your group's) physical and photographic abilities. They are based around a week's stay at Waterfront Cottage, my detached self-catering cottage just a mile from Ullapool centre. The cottage has three bedrooms (one double, two twin), and all have private en-suite facilities. If Waterfront Cottage is unavailable for your preferred dates (or you'd prefer B&B), I'll find you an alternative in Ullapool.

The cost of the holiday is a combination of renting the cottage (or B&B charges) and the number of days (or half days) landscape photography that you'd like to book.

Waterfront Cottage rental is specified in the Availability column (shown on every page of the cottage website) - eg the basic winter rent is £445 per week + fuel charge. When combined with a stay at my cottage, photography sessions during the week are charged at a discounted rate of £150 per day (approx 8 hours) and £80 per half day (approx 4 hours). This is the TOTAL cost, not "per person". The maximum photographer-group size is three. If you opt for different accommodation, the standard photography day rate applies (£180 full / 100 half)

It is not necessary to book specific days during the week - we'll decide on this together when you arrive, with an eye on the weather forecast.

At your choice, photography days may be entirely on location, or mixed in with some digital darkroom tuition (Adobe Photoshop CS5 or Elements).

EXAMPLE : One week at Waterfront Cottage in January, with four full days on location = £1,025. Between a group of three photographers, that's just over £340 each. Even with additional costs (eg food, meals out) included, this is still half the cost you'd typically expect to pay for a full-board landscape photography holiday in the UK.

HOLIDAY SUMMARY

This is unlike most other Photography Holidays on the market in that it involves self-catering, incorporating as much (or as little) photography as you wish. Even for one person it works out as no more expensive than many alternatives and for a group it's a significantly cheaper. Ullapool has a full range of facilities, so there's no reason to do any more "self-catering" than you wish.

The ADVANTAGES over the standard full-board photography holidays include :
- cheaper (for a group - not charged "per person") : typically half the cost of an equivalent full-board holiday.
- very small group size
- comfort & privacy : Waterfront Cottage offers "home from home" comfort & facilities, including separate en-suite bedrooms, central heating, open fire, freesat TV, DVDs, broadband etc. And there's loads of room for three.
- flexibility : you choose the dates for your holiday and we cherry-pick the best looking days for location photography, and you choose when, where and what you eat (Ullapool has many excellent Pub/restaurants, award-winning Chippies and a couple of supermarkets)
- option to bring a non-photographer spouse / partner etc at no extra cost: it's your holiday, so you decide who you want to spend it with.

BOOKING

Booking your holiday is a two stage process:
1. Decide on your preferred dates and check the cottage Availability Calendar (right hand side of every page on the Waterfront Cottage website). NOTE : If Waterfront Cottage is already booked, I will find a local alternative for you, whether self-catering or B&B..
2. Send me an email with your details, accommodation preference (Waterfront Cottage / other self-catering / B&B / B&B + evening meal) and the number of days or half days photography you require. I will reply with a costed package for your approval, and we'll take it from there.
